Here’s a basic overview of how the game is played:

  1. Game Setup:
    • Pallanghuzi is typically played on a rectangular wooden board with 14 cups or pits, arranged in two rows. Each player controls the seven pits on their side of the board.
    • Small seeds, shells, or stones are used as game pieces. Each pit is filled with a certain number of these pieces at the beginning of the game.
  2. Objective:
    • The main goal of the game is to capture more seeds than your opponent.
  3. Gameplay:
    • Players take turns to pick up all the seeds from one of their pits and distribute them, one by one, into the subsequent pits in an anti-clockwise direction.
    • If the last seed falls into an empty pit on the player’s side, they capture that seed and all the seeds in the opposite pit on their opponent’s side and place them in their store (a larger pit on their side of the board).
    • The captured seeds are not played again during the game.
  4. Winning:
    • The game continues until one player is unable to make a move because all of their pits are empty.
    • The player who captures the most seeds in their store is declared the winner
